"booed usic @ t he Telectropheremoanin'quinquennial": The Telectropheremoanin'quinquennial was a celebration of the 5th anniversary of B.U.T.N. (BalTimOre Underground Telephone (or Telectropheremone (or Telectropheremoanin')) Network) held at the Galaxy Ballroom in the Congress Hotel in BalTimOre, MD, us@, on January 24th, 1984. tENTATIVELY, a cONVENIENCE showed movies, including one about the 1st of the B.U.T.N. phone stations, TESTES-3, & performed "booed usic" in collaboration with Mark Harp, Ran of Nar, Leroy Keltner, & Craig Considine. The idea of this, the 1st of the booed usic events, was to have phone sex before an audience with someone hired for that purpose without their knowledge that I was on stage & to then have the booed usicians gradually increase the background noise. This didn't quite work out so friends were recruited instead of the paid person. I was too drunk. Buddy Johnson & Lisa Wetlegs came to the rescue of the 'phone sex' & managed to have a pretty funny conversation. I was also premiering my Zipper Pants, pants that I'd made entirely out of zippers. This could be said to be my 1st public 'noise concert'. BalTimOre didn't have a 'noise scene' then but there had been 2 precedents that I know of: "Fuji's Navy" at the "End of the World" show at Shriver Hall ca. 1972 & "N.E.M.B." (Non-Erotic Male Bonding) at "81 Apt" (the 8th International Neoist Apartment Festival) in 1981. Fuji's Navy was actually from Annapolis &, as I vaguely recall, may've emerged from a rock instrumentation background of guitars & drums. N.E.M.B.'s thing involved prerecordings & was, therefore, close to what became the booed usic orientation. As such, this booed usic can't make the claim of being BalTimOre's 1st noise show but I feel like the added element of the phone sex, the projections, & the 2 trombonists to make the tone color unusual etc makes it somewhat of an historical event for BalTimOre (M)Usical history anyway. This edit is just of t he bood usic section (there were 2 other groups: The Motor Morons & P.A.B.L.U.M. who aren't presented here) with digital effects added back in the mid 1980s when I had to pay Quality Film Labs for access to such things. As such, it has a 'look' to it that was exciting for me at the time. - September 15, 2017 notes from tENTATIVELY, a cONVENIENCE
